Why Expats Should Consider A Move To Chile: Part I |

Since Spanish is the official language,
it would serve you well to build a basic vocabulary; about 500 words
or so should suffice to get you started. The Rosetta Stone offers
both CD and online instruction and I found it to be immensely
helpful. The more you know, the better, but you can come without
speaking a single word of Spanish and survive. It is just easier if
you know some. Language is after all, our primary means of
communication. There are many people here who speak some very basic
English, but it tends to be rudimentary at best.
You will never meet people who are more
warm, friendly, and genuinely caring than you will here in Chile. We
were here less than a week and had made enough friends to have a
small dinner party. What a great time we had, too! Good food, good
wine, and great story-telling, all lent to one of the most pleasant
evenings passed in a very long time. It was nice to do this, as we
really had no friends in New York. We had no time to nurture
friendships as we were so busy working. Here, we can live more
leisurely, meet people, socialize and finally enjoy life's true
meaning.
Arica is not for everyone. It is the
desert, after all. It is the perfect place for me and my husband and
it may be perfect for you. If you prefer city life, then perhaps
Santiago would be to your liking. If you want four seasons, then try
the central lakes region, which is absolutely breathe taking. The
choices are as vast and varied as this country is so, make your lists
of priorities and do some research. Web sites such as
http://bradanovic.blogspot.com
has a lot of information covering this area, that you will have
little trouble finding information on just about any topic you can
imagine. Just remember to read all that is offered, as more than one
perspective is a must. What is one man's heaven may be another
man's hell.
I will be writing future articles,
primarily about this region of Chile, that will be more topic
specific, such as immigration issues, working, purchasing property,
culture, customs and cuisine so as to provide you with a more
rounded, detailed picture.
It is my sincerest hope that you found
this article to be informative enough that you would consider making
a move to this wonderful country. If I can be of any assistance at
